Summary Appraisal Report - $350

The summary appraisal involves research on the individual horse including, but not limited to: the pedigree, conformation/movement and breeding, training and competition histories.  The fair market value is established based on the sales of comparable horses.  This is the type of report necessary for IRS tax deductions on donations, determining values for mortality insurance and most other purposes.  This research and associated work is expected to take ten (10) hours, with delivery of the completed appraisal in approximately 2-3 weeks.  Scheduling of the inspection (see below) most often drives the completion date of the entire appraisal.

Inspection – Included in Summary Appraisal Report fee

The on-site inspection of the horse is included in the appraisal fee, along with a traveling distance of 150 miles from zip code 20628.  Additional mileage is reimbursable at $0.45/mile.

Discounts Available!

Are you donating your horse to a non-profit riding program or placement service?   Are you a member of the USEA, USDF, USHJA, USEF or MHSA?  I gladly offer discounts to individuals seeking an appraisal for donation/tax deduction purposes, as well as members of the aforementioned equestrian organizations (upon presentation of your membership card).

Other Billable Events – Individually priced

This category includes depositions, expert witness testimony, multiple appraisals, self-contained appraisals, etc.  For appraisals to be used in litigation, adequate time must be given to the appraiser to prepare, and fees will reflect both preparation time and participation in courtroom proceedings.  Discounts are generally available to individuals needing multiple appraisals within a short time frame.  Self-contained appraisals, often for business purposes, require more research and time and the fees will reflect this.  All fees are disclosed up front.

Payment

Half of the appraisal fee, or $175, is required to begin an appraisal. The remainder of the fee(s) is/are due at the time of delivery of the completed appraisal. The entire payment for appraisals involving divorce or bankruptcy is due prior to any work being done on the appraisal.
For appraisals involving other billable events, as noted above, a contract must be signed by all parties in advance of work beginning on the appraisal(s).  All fees are disclosed up front, and partial payment will be required upon signing of the contract.
